Poplar Farm, Silo Foundations Construction
 

We successfully delivered a comprehensive civil engineering and reinforced concrete package for the construction of new silo foundations at Poplar Farm.

The project involved the construction of substantial piled foundations designed to support the new silo installation. Our team managed the works from pre-construction activities and setting out through to piling, reinforced concrete construction and the installation of associated utility infrastructure.

The Challenge

The construction of the silo foundations required a high degree of accuracy throughout, with the position, levels and structural integrity of the foundations critical to the subsequent silo installation.

The project incorporated specialist piling, reinforcement and circular formwork, requiring careful coordination between each stage of construction. Underground ducting and utility services also had to be incorporated within the works without compromising the structural requirements of the foundations.

Our Solution

Our team coordinated and delivered the complete civil engineering and foundation package, from initial pre-construction requirements through to completion of the reinforced concrete structures.

The works included:

• Pre-construction activities and permits

• Building Control coordination

• Setting out of foundations

• Piling works

• Cropping of piles

• Installation of concrete blinding

• Reinforcement installation

• Specialist circular shuttering and formwork

• Reinforced concrete foundations

• Concrete floor construction

• Power-floated floor finishes

• Ducting and trenching for utility services

Following completion of the piling works, the piles were cropped to the required levels and the foundation areas prepared with concrete blinding. Reinforcement and specialist circular shuttering were then installed in preparation for the main concrete pours.

The reinforced concrete foundations and floors were constructed to the required specification, including power-floated finishes, providing a robust and accurately formed base for the new silo structures.

Project Outcome

The completed works provided the substantial reinforced concrete foundation system required for the construction and installation of the new silos at Poplar Farm, together with the associated underground service infrastructure.

The scheme demonstrates our capability to deliver large-scale piled foundations and specialist reinforced concrete structures, managing the complete package from pre-construction and piling through to concrete construction, finishing and utility infrastructure.
